Plumbogummite on Pyromorphite, RARE Combination, China
A beautiful and rare combination of bright green Pyromorphite coated with blue Plumbogummite from the Yangshou Mine (1418 adit), Guangxi Autonomous Region, China. The Pyromorphite crystals reach a max of 0.7 cm. Only a very small number of these rare beauties have been found. We were lucky enough to obtain a very few from a dealer who hand-carried them from China.
Pyromorphite is lead chlorophosphate, with a formula of Pb5(PO4)3Cl. The name is from the Greek word pyr meaning “fire” and morphe, "form".
Plumbogummite is lead aluminophosphate, with a formula of PbAl3(PO4)2(OH)5•H2O. The name is from its composition: plumbum - "lead" and gummi - "indian rubber."
