Polyhalite with Sylvite, New Mexico
A beautiful cluster of red Polyhalite crystals with clear Sylvite from Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico.
Polyhalite has a formula of K2Ca2Mg(SO4)4•2(H2O). The name is From the Greek, polys meaning "much" and hals, meaning "salt," in allusion to the many salt components in the formula.
Sylvite, potassium chloride, has a formula of KCl. The name is after the Dutch chemist, Sylvia de la Boe (1614-1672).
Measures 5 x 4.1 x 3.5 centimeters.
