Prehnite, Bright Green Balls, Mali

A very attractive specimen of green Prehnite from Kayes Region, Mali.

Prehnite is a basic calcium aluminum silicate, sometimes with some iron. It has a formula of Ca2Al2Si3O10(OH)2. It is named for an 18th century Dutchman, Colonel van Prehn, who first brought specimens to Europe from South Africa.

Measures 1 1/2 x 3/4 x 5/8 inches.
