Pyrite, Octahedral Crystals, Peru
A very nice large cabinet specimen of octahedral Pyrite crystals from the Huanzala Mine, Peru.
Pyrite is Iron Sulfide, with a formula of FeS2.
The name is from the Greek word pyr meaning “fire”. Called “fools gold” because it is
easily mistaken for Gold, Pyrite has had commercial importance as a source of sulfur, and also can be used in the manufacture of sulfuric acid.
Measures 4 x 3 x 1 3/4 inches.
