A large and beautiful crystal of golden cubic Pyrite from Navajun, Spain.
Pyrite is Iron Sulfide, with a formula of FeS2. The name is from the Greek word pyr meaning "fire". Called 'fools gold' because it is easily mistaken for Gold, Pyrite has had commercial importance as a source of sulfur, and also can be used in the manufacture of sulfuric acid.
Measures 1 1/2 x 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 inches (4 x 3.8 x 3.8 centimeters).
