Pyromorphite, Black Pine Mine, Idaho
A gorgeous specimen of sharp brown crystals of Pyromorphite on a Quartz Matrix from a rather unusual locale, the Black Pine Mine, Granite County, Idaho.
Pyromorphite is lead chlorophosphate, with a formula of Pb5(PO4)3Cl.
The name is from the Greek word pyr meaning “fire” and morphe, "form".
