A beautiful combination specimen of Crocoite with fine red prismatic crystals grown atop green Pyromorphite from the Platt Mine, Zeehan, Tasmania, Australia.
Crocoite, Lead Chromium Oxide, has a formula of Pb(CrO4). The name is from the Greek crocon meaning "saffron", an allusion to the (yellow) color of its powder. Crocoite is a minor ore of Lead and Chromium.
Pyromorphite is Lead chlorophosphate, with a formula of Pb5(PO4)3Cl. The name is from the Greek word pyr meaning "fire" and morphe, "form".
