Ramsdellite, black crystals, Arizona

A nice specimen of the unusual mineral Ramsdellite from the Mistake Mine, Sam Powell Peak, Yavapai County, Arizona. The reason that specimens aren't often seen in mineral markets is that rarely does it form in good crystals.

Ramsdellite is manganese oxide, MnO2. It is named for mineralogist Lewis S. Ramsdell (1895-1975) of the University of Michigan, who first described the mineral.

Measures 2.5 x 1.6 x 0.7 centimeters.
