Rutile, Cabinet-sized specimen, Graves Mtn., Georgia
This specimen is from the world's premier source for Rutile specimens, Graves Mountain in Lincoln County, Georgia. This piece consists of a solid vein of crystalline Rutile that has a nice termination on one end. The Rutile is dark red with a submetallic luster. There is some minor Kyanite attached to one end of the piece.
Rutile is Titanium dioxide, with a formula of TiO2.
The name is from the Latin rutilus “reddish” in reference to it's color.
Measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches.
