Sphalerite, "Ruby Jack" Crystals, Missouri
A large and quite beautiful specimen of gem red 'ruby jack' Sphalerite crystals from the Tri-state District, Joplin, Missouri. Largest crystal measures 0.8 cm. Extraordinarily good condition, almost no 'dings' anywhere.
Sphalerite,Zinc sulfide, has a formula of ZnS. The name is from the German sphaleros, "treacherous", in allusion to its similarity to other minerals and the ease in which it is confused.
Measures 10.5 x 9.8 x 6.5 centimeters.
