Spinel, Pink Octahedral Crystal, Vietnam

A very sharp pink octahedral crystal of Spinel from Lec Yen, Yen Bai Province, Vietnam.

Spinel is magnesium aluminum oxide, with a formula of MgAl2)4. The name is probably from the Latin spina meaning “thorn”, in reference to it's sharply pointed crystals.

Measures 2.5 x 2.1 x 1.5 centimeters.
