Tellurium, Rare Native Metal, Mexico
A rare specimen of Native Tellurium from the Bambolla Mine, Municipo de Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico, associated with yellow-brown powdery Tellurite. Tellurium is the ninth-rarest metallic element on Earth.
Tellurium, "Native Tellurium", has a formula of Te. From the Latin tellus meaning "earth", it was discovered in 1782 by Franz-Joseph Müller von Reichenstein in Nagyszeben (now Sibiu), Transylvania.
Tellurite is Tellurium oxide, with a formula of TeO2.
