Thomsonite & Analcime, Oregon
A very attractive specimen with clear trapezohedral crystals of Anamcime to a max of 0.8 cm. with white botryoidal Thomsonite from McGowan Creek, Coburg Hills, Lane County, Oregon.
Thomsonite, sodium calcium aluminum silicate, has a formula of NaCa2Al5Si5O20•6H2O. It is named for T. Thomson (1773-1852) Scottish chemist.
Analcime, a hydrated sodium aluminum silicate, has a formula of NaAlSi2O6•H2O. It is named from the Greek word meaning weak, referring to a weak electrical charge developed on rubbing.
