Topaz, gemmy crystal, Argentina
A nicely formed, pale yellow Topaz crystal from a rather obscure locale, the Papachacra Pegmatite, Catamarca Province, Argentina.
Topaz, aluminum fluorsilicate, has a formula of Al2SiO4(F,OH)2.
The name is from the Greek topazos, a name which is said to be applied to a gem whose identity has been lost.
Measures 3.1 x 2.8 x 2.2 centimeters.
