Topaz w/ Elbaite Tourmaline, Pakistan
A sweet combination specimen with a clear gem crystal of Topaz and dark green Elbaite tourmaline from the Shigar Valley, Baltistan, Pakistan.
Topaz,aluminum fluorsilicate, has a formula of Al2SiO4(F,OH)2. The name is from the Greek topazos, a name which is said to be applied to a gem whose identity has been lost.
Tourmaline is a complex silicate of boron and aluminum, whose composition varies widely because of substitutions. Na(Mg, Fe)3Al6(B3)3(Si6O18)(OH,F)4. The name is from the Singhalese touramilli “mixed colored stones” in reference to the various, multi-colors it occurs in.
Measures 3.3 x 2.9 x 2.7 centimeters.
