Variscite with Strengite, Brazil
An unusual specimen with two fairly rare minerals, raspberry red Variscite with purple Strengite from the Boa Vista Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Variscite is a hydrous aluminum phosphate, with a formula of Al(PO4)•2(H2O). It is named after Variscia, the historical name of Vogtland, Germany.
Strengite is hydrous iron phosphate, with a formula of Fe(PO4)•2(H2O). It is named after Johann August Streng (1830-1897), German mineralogist at the University of Giessen, Germany.
