Volborthite, green crystals on matrix, Arizona
A very sharp specimen of the unusual copper-vanadium oxide mineral Volborthite from the Monument #2 Mine, Apache County, Arizona.
Volborthite has a formula of Cu3V2O7(OH)2•2(H2O). It is named for Alexander von Volborth (1800-1876), the Russian paleontologist who first noted the mineral.
Measures 6.1 x 4.8 x 1.9 centimeters.
