Whiteite with Lazulite, Rapid Creek Canada
An attractive combination specimen with great contrast, deep blue Lazulite on tan Whiteite from Rapid Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada.
Lazulite is a magnesium, iron, and aluminum phosphate, with a formula of (Mg,Fe)Al2(PO4)3(OH)2. The name is from the Arabic lazaward, "heaven", in reference to it's blue color.
Whiteite is a complex phosphate, with a formula of CaMnMg2Al2(PO4)4(OH)2•8H2O. It is named for John S. White, Jr. (1933-), former editor of the Mineralogical Record.
Measures 2.8 x 2.1 x 1.5 centimeters.
