Woodhouseite and Rutile on Quartz, California
A beautiful specimen of the rare (Beudantite Group) mineral Woodhouseite on Quartz with Rutile crystals from its type locality, the Champion Mine, White Mountain, Mono County, California.
Woodhouseite is a sulfate-phosphate member of the Beudantite group, whose composition is 2CaO•3Al2O3•P2O5•2SO3•6H2O. The name is in honor of Mr. Charles D. Woodhouse (1888 - 1975), the General Manager of Champion Sillimanite, Inc., who was well known as a mineral enthusiast.
