Wulfenite on Mimetite, Ojuela Mine, Mexico
A beautiful specimen of yellow dogtooth Wulfenite crystals on green botryoidal Mimetite from the prolific Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico.
Wulfenite is a lead Molybdate, with a formula of PbMoO4. The name is in honor of the Austrian mineralogist Franz Xaver von Wulfen (1728-1805).
Mimetite, lead chloroarsenate, has a formula of Pb5(AsO4)3Cl. The name is from the Greek mimetes, “imitator”, from it's resemblance to Pyromorphite.
Measures 3.7 x 3.4 x 2.7 centimeters.
