Wulfenite with Mimetite, San Francisco Mine, Mexico
A beautiful cluster of yellow Wulfenite crysals with orange Mimetite from the San Francisco Mine, Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico. No matrix at all on this one.
Wulfenite is a lead molybdate, with a formula of PbMoO4. The name is in honor of the Austrian mineralogist Franz Xaver von Wulfen (1728-1805).
Mimetite, lead chloroarsenate, has a formula of Pb5(AsO4)3Cl. The name is from the Greek mimetes, “imitator”, from it's resemblance to Pyromorphite.
Measures 6.3 x 3.8 x 2 centimeters.
